Artist’s Statement

My images are based on two primary ways of seeing and working:

Exploring objects or scenes to capture their underlying order and to re-interpret them, as abstraction, often in three dimensions

This often results in a series of images evolving as lines, planes, shadows, and indentations/projections from the base medium (paper, wood, plexiglass, metal)

Utilization of natural light (the sun) or artificial light to transform objects depending on point of view or time of day

Constructions explore three-dimensional compositions in layers. These derive from my architectural training as well as my interest in light and shadow effects.

Trees Abstractions of trees in Central Park, NY and at Tryall, Jamaica

Transformations are layered paintings on canvas, paper, cloth, wood and other materials, as well as collages both direct and as transfer images

Printmaking includes monotypes and woodblock, exploring layered geometric patterns.

Patterns are abstractions of objects and views of New York City infrastructure
